Text 2.0

What happens when the text you're reading knows what you are reading? You have just encountered text 2.0.

Using eye-trackers, HTML, CSS and a lot of Javascript, these guys from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) are creating a all new reading experience, where text adapts at what you are reading, the pace of your reading, etc.

    O conceito tem imenso potencial disruptivo, apesar de ter o inconveniente de exigir hardware ainda não banalizado em aplicações civis (o “eye-tracker”).

    A aplicação desta tecnologia em textos técnicos, escolares e infantis abre imensas possibilidades interactivas, dispensando a interacção física via rato e teclado.

    A possibilidade de usar “gestos oculares” (“eye gestures”) também será possível.

    A possibilidade apresentada no fim, de apoio à “leitura dinâmica” (“skimming” ou “speed reading”) poderá diminuir (ainda mais…) a nossa cada vez menor capacidade de concentração na leitura…

    Resumir demasiado a informação (como é mostrado no “desvanecer” que mantém visíveis só as palavras-chave) implica risco de falhas de interpretação e perda de sentido…

    Mas isso não invalida que todo este conceito de leitura dinâmica e “ampliada” (“enhanced reading”) seja promissor, mesmo que para outras aplicações :-)
